What I Wish Someone Had Told Me
I wish someone had told me that it’s possible to know God this side of eternity! To see his footsteps in our sand while we’re still alive. I wish someone told me that He wants me to know him, and he works tirelessly to make this a reality every moment of each day, even when I’m off track and gotten lost in the weeds!
I wish someone had told me that God isn’t very far from each and every one of us, trying to draw us to him so that we can commune with him and he with us, just like Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden! I wish someone had told me that I don’t have to face life’s decisions and struggles on my own, but I have a loving and ever-present Father who is willing to help me and guide me, almost every step if I ask him to! I wish someone had told me that He cares about the big things as well as the smaller details of my life!
I wish someone had told me that getting right with God, even if just in my conscience, was as simple as pouring my heart out to him and asking him to forgive me for all my faults big and small! I wish someone had told me, that as a condition of who He is, being a Just and Righteous God, He promises to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness, if we just admit our faults, big and small. I wish someone had told me that I don’t have to live with the repetitive faults I see in myself, that God is in the business of transforming us into a new creation! I wish someone had told me that the life God has planned for me is greater and more fulfilling than anything I could conjure up for myself.
I wish someone had told me that God is not only intelligent, but his intellect is far beyond what even the most intelligent people can fathom, and that because of this, he can hide things just beyond our view, BUT he’s willing to show unimaginable things to the lowliest of people if they just ask him to! I wish someone had told me that he would give wisdom to anyone who asks him!
I wish someone had told me that I don’t have to seek food and clothing, that if I seek his kingdom first all these things will be added to me! I wish someone had told me that God is only a prayer away and able to help me in any time of need, even if just with my emotions.
I wish someone had told me that I don’t need to fear what’s happening on earth because God will make an oasis in the desert, a shelter in the storm, and even if our lives are lost to some tragedy, He promises to eventually bring us all back from death! The Bible told me all these things and more!
I wish someone had told me to focus on Jesus when reading the Bible. I wish someone had told me to focus on whom the Bible claims that Jesus was and is! I wish someone told me to focus on the words and commands of Jesus in the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, when he walked this earth. I wish someone had told me to follow these with all my heart, mind, soul and strength.
I wish someone had told me that if I put my faith and trust in Jesus that I would not be ashamed or disappointed. I wish someone had told me that Jesus is God in Human Flesh, that the Fulness of God dwelt in Jesus bodily, that to know Jesus is to know The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit! I wish someone had told me to pray to Jesus without ceasing, to ask him to forgive me, guide me and manifest himself to me! I wish someone had told me that I can talk to Jesus like my nearest and dearest friend.
I wish someone had told me not to listen to anyone else no matter how learned or knowledgeable they seemed, but to be guided by the Bible alone and to not give up until I had put all its Claims and Promises to the test. I wish someone had told me that finding faith in Jesus was going to be an uphill battle and that there would be many obstacles both externally and internally, trying to prevent me from coming to full faith and trust in Jesus.
I wish someone had told me that God intentionally came as a Man, not only to die for my sins, but so that I would look to this Man Jesus to fulfill my every need. I wish someone had told me that the Just or Justified shall live by faith in the Son of God, who is really the Father manifested in Human Flesh, and that to have faith in and trust in Jesus, is to have faith in and trust in God.
I wish someone had told me, that God knew we were never going to be able to get to God on our own, that we were always going to need God to come down, and intervene on our behalf, to help us not only find him, but to help us to know him and follow him, to help us to have faith in him. I wish someone had told me that from the beginning of the fall of Adam and Eve, that God never gave up on trying to do everything in his power to make it possible for me to find him, know him, follow him and have fellowship with him!
How I wish someone had told me all these things.
